Making Every Adult Matter

Making Every Adult Matter

Clinks conference in partnership with DrugScope, Mind & Homeless Link

2 December 2008. London.

Often when we talk to members, we hear about the gaps in policy and resources for service users with multiple needs. Overcoming the barriers that remain in the way of offering a wrap around service has become one of the most significant steps on the path to supporting these needs, which can include mental health issues, addictions, contact with criminal justice and homelessness.

In response to this, Clinks is working in partnership with DrugScope, Mind and Homeless Link to seek solutions across Government policies, and to develop service practice and partnership at a local level.

Making Every Adult Matter is a one-day joint sector conference on 2 December.  It marks the start of a campaign concerned with achieving change for the people we all ultimately work for.  People who have multiple needs often tend to fall just under the threshold for services and do not fit easily into conventional treatment patterns. They cross between the criminal justice system, mental health and acute health services, homelessness provision and drug and alcohol services. They experience poverty, poor physical health and are serially excluded from public services and most employment and training activity.  At a time when the Government is increasingly talking of "No one left behind" it is crucial that we overcome the traditional problems in accessing services and find a way to plug the gap in services. The new focus on joining up funding at a local level offers some useful opportunities.

This conference is an opportunity for service providers from across the four different sectors, to feed in your views and to share solutions to improve the lives of this group of people. It offers a chance to influence and help shape the national and local agendas, by placing your experiences at the heart of the campaign.

Confirmed speakers include:

Naomi Eisenstadt CB, Social Exclusion Task Force

Lord Victor Adebowale, Turning Point

Dr Geraldine Strathdee, London Darzai Mental Health Programme
