Voluntary Links to be strengthened at Chard Event
Community groups in the Chard area are being invited to become part of an event aimed at promoting their work, attracting new volunteers and introducing their groups to others in the area.
Anyone involved with a club, voluntary group or organisation is being encouraged to contact Leonie Girling from the Volunteer Centre to arrange a stall or display by the 1st March 2010.
Cllr Kim Turner, Area West Chairman for South Somerset District Council explains, “There are hundreds of groups operating in the area and through the work on the Chard Regeneration Scheme the need for networking opportunities has become apparent.
“This could be the start of a whole series of events designed to introduce voluntary groups to each other, give them an opportunity to show the community what they do, sell produce, put on a display or performance, and find out about the support and grants that the district council and its partners can provide.”
The event, organised in conjunction with the South Somerset Association for Voluntary and Community Action, will be held in the Guildhall on Saturday 17th April 10am-2pm. Becky Britten, Development Worker for South Somerset Association for Voluntary and Community Action said “This will be a really good opportunity for groups to raise a bit of money at a fun event for all the family”
