Community Development in Poole

Members of the community development team at Poole Borough have been undertaking some nationally accredited training in their field of work over the last few months. It has been greatly enjoyed by all and has acted as a springboard to strengthen their work across communities in the Poole area.

Daniel, Lianne and Paula say it has given them more confidence to tackle challenging work and mobilise communities to act on things that matter to them. The training has given them the chance to not only reinforce what they already know works, but deepen their approach to 'best practice' models in community development work. They have been working towards the national standards (college A level standard - accredited at level 3). They assert that it has given them all the chance to underpin their work in Poole, with a real sense of what works, and see how their community work measures up against the Federation of Community Development Learning models of good practice.

Paula adds, 'It has got me all excited about my role again and the difference that communities working together can make! It has given me chance to see how little steps that we take, alongside communities, are all part of a greater movement of transformation in the lives of those we support.'

All of the staff say it has been a great opportunity to be supported and encouraged by the Borough to take this course and they are looking forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of those they work with.
