Springboard - Community Learning Champions

Somerset Springboard project is a voluntary and statutory sector partnership project working with local people in Sedgemoor and West Somerset.  The partners include ViSTA, Somerset Skills & Learning, Sedgemoor and West Somerset District Councils, Somerset Youth Volunteering Network and Somerset Racial Equality Council.

The project will recruit and train 30 local volunteers as Community Learning Champions.  Each learning champion will receive support and mentoring from the partners' staff to assist them in their role.  The learning champions will be active in their neighbourhoods connecting their neighbours and friends with informal learning opportunities and information services.

Each of the Community Learning Champions will be supported to promote informal learning within their communities and to organise informal learning or leisure taster events and information sessions for their peers.  The Community Learning Champions will be particularly keen to engage with unemployed young adults (19+) and women from black and minority ethnic communities.

The 3 voluntary sector partners will act as intermediaries, linking the learning champions and the communities with learning providers and learning advice and guidance networks.

The statutory partners will form the Partnership Steering Committee and will provide assistance and resource to the project including access to "open spaces" for the taster events, information, advice and guidance services and access to progression opportunities for the initial and subsequent learning champions.
