The Early Years Professional Status. Be a Leader - Make a Difference
The South West Initiative for Training (SWIfT) is a formidable partnership between the Local Education Authorities (LEA'S) of Cornwall, Devon, Isles of Scilly, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay, North Somerset, Dorset, Bournemouth, Poole, The College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth, University of Plymouth and Bridgwater College.
SWIfT recognises that for employers people are the most valuable resource, therefore we aim to support individuals across the South West gain recognition for their role and achieve the status they deserve.
Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) is a new role that recognises effective leadership of practice across a range of early years provision. To be an Early Years Professional you will initially need either a foundation or full degree ideally in early years or similar and ideally be working with 0-5 year olds. There are four different pathways you can follow depending on knowledge, skills and experience. One of these - the Full Pathway is available for graduates with either a related early years degree or non-related degree. Candidates for this pathway will typically have little or no relevant experience with children from birth to five. This pathway is full time for a year with a £5,000 bursary paid monthly.
You will need be committed to achieving the status; regardless of the pathway you undertake and will also need a real commitment to make a difference in a childcare setting for young people and their families. Training costs are fully met which means no costs to individuals or settings.
You will also need to have achieved GCSE 'C' and above in Maths and English or an equivalent qualification at the end of your training.
