Staff from Wellington based Care Company Achieve Awards

Several staff at Wellington based residential care company,Plus One (South West) Ltd, have recently been awarded NOCN Certificates in recognition of their achievements on a number of relevant courses.

The employees have been studying with Somerset based voluntary sector training specialists, ViSTA.  They covered subjects in Alcohol Awareness, Understanding Eating Disorders, Understanding Cognitive Development in Children and Planning and Cooking for Healthy Living.  All  these subjects are highly relevant to the staff,  as Plus One is a specialist residential care company supporting young people with emotional difficulties in care homes throughout Somerset.

The staff involved all agreed that the training sessions offered a great opportunity for carers from the homes to get together, something they really value.  They also said it feels good to have the qualifications and has increased their confidence in their work.

Lynda Wilkinson, Resource Coordinator for Plus One who encouraged this training said:

‘Although we do lots of our own in-house training, it is really valuable to work with other training organisations like ViSTA as it brings a wider perspective to our organisation.’

Director Lou Stockley stated

‘Continuing professional development for our residential care staff is essential to enable them to provide opportunities for healthy physical and emotional development of our young people.’
